Vintage Japanese medicine box Kanji characters wood Kyoto Japan pharmacy antique

Description

Vintage or antique Japanese box that may have been a medicine or pharmaceutical box. One of the Kanji characters may be related to a Kyoto pharmacy (IE) but that information came from an online reference so I am not sure about that.
Very well crafted box with dovetail or mortise and tenon type joinery. Solid oak with hand painted calligraphy characters. The box measures about 7" x 9" x 11" and weighs about 5 pounds.
There is a blue paper insert glued to the underside box lid with numbers and columns- may be the inventory stored in the box. There is a circular cut-out in the bottom that looks like it may have held an instrument of some kind.
Correct translations and identification of the lettering would be greatly appreciated so that I can categorize this properly. Regardless, it is a beautiful old box.
Some scratches, marks, dings and the front latch is broken. Sold "as is".
